Why are you deciding? Is the old planter worn out? Looking for a tax dodge? Trying to keep up with the neighbors? Working off farm and need to speed things up?

I would say this, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Keep the planter matching the combine.

Some guys love finger pickups, but frankly if the best stand you get is 98% and you are happy, if never changing seed sizes or brands in season, if your tractor doesn't have any hydraulics to spare. Stay finger pickup

If you want 99.8% stands and want to change seed sizes and brands at any given notice and your tractor can handle it, go vac. Finger pickup is not simpler, just seems that way because that is what you are used to...... way less moving parts in a vac planter.

I can throw away my vac disks every year and buy new and be money ahead for what I used to spend having my finger pickups set every year.......
