The other thing that changed the game here was the Codling Moth...this valley was isolated enough that for quite a few years they didn't even have to spray the orchards. Sometime in the late 20's or 30's the moth found its way in & really devastated the apples. Put a bunch of big outfits out of business, & it took a long time to come back. One huge packing shed is the living history museum... Now the county can come into your backyard & cut down a fruit tree if you don't spray it. | |
