Oregon | I applaud you Willie in your defense of the Kansas Wheat Commission. Without an active wheat commission the wheat industry is at a severe disadvantage when trying to sell US wheat abroad. I farm in Oregon and Washington State and about 90% of our product is exported and most of the farmers recognize how important it is to maintain an active commission. By the way in Washington State the assessment rate is 3/4 of 1% at the first point of sale. In Oregon, we are currently in the process of raising it to 5 cents a bushel from 3 cents with no refundability. I also think that Kansas may need to raise the assessment because as of a couple months ago they were behind in their dues to NAWG. However, since I am not really a player on the national stage, the Kansas delinquency may be a ploy to leverage some Kansas position. | |
