Central, IA | Its old, ain't real pretty, or fast, but it was in the shed, so the price was right. I believe it's actually the third one we've owned.
My dad and cousin started with a 600 in the early 80's. They traded that for a 700 a few years later. Sometime around 1990, he sold that to a neighbor and bought a brand new hydramaxx. He ran that for several years until we bought our first plow in 95.
The plow had a 4 or 6" boot and was pulled by an 8640 so it wasn't going to put in many mains. He picked this one up cheap because the previous owner dropped it off a truck. I remember the guys fixing it up in the shop. I don't think it was used much before it was parked inside and sat from about 97-2013.
That winter, I put a new battery and fuel in it, but it wouldn't fire. I ended up swapping the injectors in the old machine shed, and it fired right up.
We only use it on the mains, plow the laterals. We shut off the combine one day this fall and plowed right behind the wheel. That was very productive.
We also ran 1700' of 15" dual wall this fall. It took about a day and a half with 4 of us. We don't have a long boot, just through them in right behind the machine. We are considering building a boot for it, but don't do much dual wall. I think it digs about a 24" trench.
The 4-53 Detroit will wake the dead, so I put a second muffler in series after the original. It is starting to get a little fuel in the oil, so I'm a little afraid a transplant may be on the horizon.
