Yeah, but at least he would own the farm. Right now he feels like a slave, there is no light at the end of the tunnel for him.
I would talk to your FIL about restructuring so you have more skin in the game. I think that will completely change your mindset. If full time dairy farming isn't for you, maybe he can sell the dairy and do the crops and livestock while you find a job off the farm and help when you can. You get to stay involved and still are able to make outside money that you can use to buy your own land/cows/equipment/etc someday.
