we've usually followed the rule of thumb that glensts mentioned. AS long as you can leave an indent in kernel with fingernail and it stays indented, then good to go. We have started spraying a little earlier than that recently. As long as when you squish the kernel between your thumb and finger and no drop of water or "milk" oozes out, then you can preharvest it. I typically go to some of the greener areas of the field or low spots. Once the green spots meet my squish test, then the remainder of the field will probably be in the fingernail test. Real scientific!!!
