Northwest iowa | Chuckles, is there really any value in spending this much time and effort in your decision process to buy a used tractor? You just never know with used stuff what could happen. A nice low houred machine is generally a better bet, but will cost a lot more and the reality is it can still have problems. I have had it go the other way too, where I bought high hours for less money and had very good results. So, determine your needs and go BUY something. Buying a tractor doesn't have to be permanent, if you later on decide its not the right one, trade it off.
That being said, I can contribute to your question about the MTX. I have both JD and McCormicks in the size you are looking at, and all were bought used, and all have been here for 5-6 years and used for loader, raking, round baling, bale shreader, 30' drill, etc. All have accumulated 3-4000 hours in their time here and have been excellent. No major repairs among them. The 7410 needed a new pto, not a big deal. It seemed a little weak on cooling when on the baler, compared to the MTX120. We like the cab, and the road speed a lot better on the red ones. They both start very good at very cold temps. Even a little below zero not a problem without being plugged in, in a pinch. Front rims cracked on the MTX, annoying but not a deal breaker, have had deeres do that too.
Go buy something!
