I guess I'm backwards cause I do both. If you aren't planting the plant the do you fertilize? Do you spread urea, apply 32%, or knife in aa on ground you aren't planting? Soil health is important I agree. But the plants optimal growing fertility and pH is what you are interested in. So that's what I approach. It may be wrong but seems to work well
