  usually the problem with setting them on something is that when the ground settles underneath the block doesn't move and the pipe could kink or leak.  Run into that a lot of times with a pitless adapter folks dig down to install and then hook up the line. After a few years the pipe can break at the brass fitting.  We have always slid a piece of pvc heavy wall three foot long or so and big enough to go over the clamps...  Clamp the pipe then slide the pvc over all of it.  bridges the gap from ditch to pitless.
