Don't mess with the black stuff from any of the multipurpose stores.. go to an outfit that supplies well drillers, plumbers, etc and get the good blue line. Use brass fittings, and double clamp each connection.

We usually run our trencher as deep as it will go (5 ft) incase the guy running the line isn't quite on the ball and you have a cave-in, you can still get your line below 42 inches easily
