I guess if it's so bad farming, the OP can get a job at mcdees and find out how much fun it is to punch a clock. And, wow, the pay there will set him up for life.
Seen and been (still am, for that matter) on both sides of the fence, and this side is better, hands down. And I'm not referring to just the money aspect.
I'm in the same boat. I'm fortunate enough to have a pretty good job in town, but I'd still rather be farming full time.
I have a cousin that farms a few miles away from me, and he had to live that dual life for about 15 years, crappy job and all. We met for a beer after my Grandpa's funeral a few years ago, and we were talking about this very subject. He looked at me and shook his head, saying that the full time farmers that have never had to punch a clock just plain don't get it. It's sure as hell not as easy as it may look. |
