northeastern Ohio | Dad bought a brand new Luv truck in 1978. The body started to rust in less than a year and he numerous mechanical problems so he traded for a 1979 half ton Chevy with a straight 6. I think it only had a 12 gallon gas tank. In high school I had a girlfriend that lived at the other end of the county and I always took the 79 Chevy. I'd fill up the fuel tank before I left and I had to pop it into neutral down every hill in order to have enough gas for a round trip!!!
Anyhow, back to diesel pickups... My neighbor has a 1982 S-10 with a factory diesel. Orange in color with a black stripe down the side. It's getting pretty rusty but I think it has 200,000 miles on it. I believe he gets around 40 mpg, but he doesn't pull anything with it. Just a run-around truck. I think it was the only year that Chevy put a diesel in the S-10. | |
