Kittitas Co. Wa. State | With that much seed already on the ground, I would consider getting the remaining crop and off the field as fast as possible and go ahead with a 2 year wheat program. Nature seeded pretty heavy, but after combining and getting the staw off asap the surviving seeding rate should be about right.
Granted the wheat will be pretty tall (weather depending) later this fall, but if you could "lightly" pasture off, keep the animals very contained in a portion of the field and move fences pretty often, (so the animals don't stomp the crop to death wandering around) might make for a super 09 crop. Or,, go in an swath it down bale and remove the "grass" before it get to the "wheat" stage.
just a couple of thoughts.. A real shame to completely lose 2000 pounds of seed per/ac. Never had that situation. | |
