Southeast WI | Excellent points. I did exactly what you did last night and the rep recommended the xps 8700 too. I've had the xps series from them and currently own an optiplex. The optiplex is more for hardcore business needs where they are left on continuously is what he told me - it is what Dell uses in their offices. He said a similar XPS could be spec'd out the same as an Optiplex for much less money.
Now that I got a quote with all the specs I can start comparing (to see the diff between Opti and XPS for example) and adding what else I need. By the time I get done I'm sure I won't spend any more money than I did on ones I bought 10-12 years ago. Surfing around at other sites last night and looking at ads it appears there is very little difference in price with similar spec'd machines. Somebody show me if this observation is wrong. The Dell shopping experience is not bad and over 15 years I've never had any real issues with them or their service - and I've used on-site service once too. | |
