Pvafarm - 12/3/2014 18:43   Here I do some mapping, lot of database type programs, use Excel and Word, no gaming on the office computer. Use two monitors and sometimes 4 would be handy working on Nutrient Plans, downloading soil data and adding that info to another plan all at the same time.

My opinion, which many will argue with, is that you are describing aggressive use of your computer.  My last desktop was a Dell, even though I am so frustrated with the company I swore I would never buy from them again.  This time I found the XPS 8700 was close to what I wanted, and could still be purchased with Windows 7.  I chatted online with sales, and was able to upgrade the standard specs (used to be able to do that in the Dell.com website).  Memory is so cheap now, I max it out.  Hard drives are also reasonable to upgrade, why not have excess capacity?  I like the sd card reader slots built into the SPS 8700, use them quite often, mostly to download pictures.

I have a MS Surface Pro 3 that has Windows 8.1.  I am getting used to it, but still have a lot to learn.  If I want to do some serious work I use the desktops, the two monitors are a great feature, I set my security cameras viewer to use one of them when I don't want to use it for spreadsheets and such, so I can always use the main monitor for other tasks.

It is amazing to me that with every upgrade to chips and computers with more power and storage space, the price is almost always the same as the first computer I bought with 10 megabits of storage and limited memory.
