Brinkley, Arkansas | Cotton acres are on a steep decline around here. I'm down from 1700 acres last year to 150 now. The thing is if cotton goes back to $1.00/# it will be much more competitive ASSUMING the local buyers will pay that much for it. This spring when it got to 0.985 I tried to book some and was flatly refused. All of the major buyers were out of the market completely. Theres no way I would hedge the board and leave my basis risk open to that bunch of crooks.
