I've seen it done as well. One of my neighbors got into the UNR cotton a few years ago on several hundred acres. His stands that I saw were definitely not worth braggin over but his was mostly dryland so he couldn't just plant shallow and water it up with his pivots. He's all 38" rows now. Also when he did it seed wasn't nearly as expensive as it is now.
