Subject: RE: I need to automate my bale handling

western Massachusetts
We run 14 kicker wagons and two balers and it is at times a real hassle. I am not sure how far from Fonda/Amsterdam, you are, but I know there is a guy over there right off the thruway that runs both a SP and a pull behind model. They had the Amish come in and help with their barn and it is quite impressive. They do roughly 3-4k a day with ease. I have thought and actually priced the Steffen accumulator with all the bells and whistles, and it priced out at $20k. That is a lot of money for even a 10k bale operation. We do roughly 25-30k small 2 string, 45-50 lb. We too do not have the most ideal storage conditions but are toying with the idea of a straw bale barn. I have toyed with the idea of a boom truck with a grapple but barn height becomes a big issue. I also spoke to some gentlemen last year at Empire Farm days that bale with a dual baler hitch (1 tractor, 2 jd 348's) One man 7k bales, 1 day. They bale with 6 balers normally. I realize that is very costly and probably nothing you are looking for, but they were in Geneseo. You can e-mail me and I will get the info on them if you are interested [email protected] Good Luck Mike
