Leesburg, Ohio
Robert: If you go with a Stackliner from Roeder, I really don't think you would need to spend money on a second machine. Maybe I don't worry as much, because my neighbor has one also, but if I'm using mine, he's definately using his, so we don't share bale wagons very often like we do some other equipment.

We both have older S1048 self propelled wagons, 1978 vintage, and have had very little trouble. We both bought from Roeder in Kansas, and they delivered. At the time, paid around $9k. I do about 20k bales of straw/yr., he does about 60k bales hay and straw combined. We both run NH 575 baler. Another neighbor here has a pull-type wagon, and I see him on the road alot at 11-12 pm still hauling. I would not go with a pull-type, period. The 1075/1085 models would be real cadillacs. We use two-bale-wide models, and get 108 bales per load. I would consider 3-bale-wide models if I were starting over, but wouldn't work as well loading semi van boxes. Just build you barn to fit. Make sure you go at least 17.5' tall under the trusses, and brace the back wall well. We use 63' wide by 90' to 105' long barns, with one end open. Eight stacks across. 9 to 12k bales/barn. Don't go open-sided between side-wall poles...you'll be forever dodging poles, and the open endwall allows for the most efficient use of barn space. We also put a tenth layer on top of our 9 high stacks after we set them up in the barn. We use Lewco grapples that picks up twelve bales on edge, and has the extended height option. Get one that rotates...lots more flexibility loading trucks. Our are mounted on front loaders on our backhoes, with quick-tach.
Good luck!
