Subject: RE: working with family members and sharing equipment?

Beresford, SD
My father and I own an auger together that is it. I own the cattle and all the supporting equipment. He owns all the row crop equipment. I pay him the median average of Iowa States custom rates for use of his equipment. We write down our hours helping each other during the year and settle up on December 31. (this year he did my chores a few times and packed silage and earlage for about 6 days...Claims he had his fill of cattle He fed for over 35 years) We each make our own decisions with our crop acres and he gives me advise with my cattle, but does not get involved. I have mine and he has his. We have to do things this way as I have a brother and 2 sisters that are not on the farm. Dad and I have never had an argument about money ever, because we keep it black and white. We have had arguments about how all the work gets done at times. He lives 2 miles from my place.
