I forgot about Kuhns, they are not too far from me and one system that I did like for the same reason you did. What I worried about with a system like the Kuhns or Steffans is that you are covering the field more then twice. You are running the baler first regardless but with a NH stack wagon you pick up the bales and go to the barn. With the systems that leave the bales in the field you then have to bring a tractor out as well as bring out wagons or trucks to load and haul. If you have someone hauling wagons then you are covering the field three times minimum as the tractor has to get all the bales to load on the trailers. Another thing I worry about with an accumulator system is if you need to unload them to keep picking up out of the field. If I need to have a dozen flat wagons then I don't see where I can save much money and if I need to have two tractors with grabs so one can be loading and another unloading then it is going to be quite expensive plus I might want another worker to speed up things. If I had a few 30' gooseneck trailers and trucks to pull them all then I could see this as a logical choice but it just seems like it requires more equipment to automate the process then the New Holland. I hope I don't sound like I don't like the other systems but I am trying to decide what is the best for my operation and looking for feedback on what I feel might be drawbacks to each system. The main drawback to the NH pull type stack wagon is if I had to travel any major distance. But since my barn will be within a couple miles from my furthest field then I don't think I will have much trouble with hauling. For you guys who run the Kuhns system how do you get the hay up out of the field and put it in the barn? I regularly cut around 1500 bales at a time. At most I have baled 2500 bales in a day so I need to be able to pick up what I bale each night. I can have one helper usually either running the baler or hauling hay as I bale so I won't need to pick up 1500 bales after I bale, just what is left.
