We would ring our sows before taking them to the field to farrow. When we would process the pigs at 2 days old just a bump on the ring with a scoop shovel would slow the sow down. The shovel also was used to retrieve the babies from the shelter. Being able to hurdle a 39 inch fence on a dead run was also an advantage.
