It may be different in other areas but my stockpiled native grass is 4-5% protein. Will get down to 3% late in the winter if its wet. 3 lbs is an average over the winter. I'm feeding 2 lbs now and will gradually increase as bcs tells me to. If she'll eat 25 lbs a day that's 1 lb. Protien. She'll probably eat 30. The cake is just a supplement, not a replacement.

Justbad, if your grinding and mixing there are much cheaper protein sources than cake.

Cake is for ease of use, feeding on the ground in distant pastures and is priced for the convenience.
