Subject: silage bag dilemma

Driftless SW Wisconsin

I wasn't going to start feeding bagged corn silage until late December. However with current cold temperatures and wind chills the cows might use a bit more energy in addition to the good hay and haylage I've been putting out for them. This is only my second winter using bagged corn silage so I'm still learning.

Question: if I open the sealed bag and feed from it for a few days until the weather warms up, can I then re-close the bag for a month or so or will it start to spoil once opened?

I was under the impression that once you start feeding from a bag you must take 6" or a foot off of the face every day or it spoils.
