Subject: RE: how warm do you keep your tie stall barn?

Only thing our barn is used for is for the animals to get out of the wind and elements of the winter and is not equipped with a heat source. The main herd doesn't even get access to it, they have some good hillside ditches with tree cover in the fall/winter pasture they are able to take cover when they don't want to stand out in the elements to eat hay. The yearling heifers, the bull, and the maternity ward have access to the barn lean-to. Sometimes we'll open up a bar stall for the heifers in the winter depending on how many cows we have up in the maternity ward where we would need to take out the divider but the actual barn stalls are mostly just used for calving and 1 stall has an exterior door that we rig up so only calves can come in and take shelter from the lean-to area.
