Depending on a lot of details, they can use a buffered acid and eat the mineral off the screen if it is plugged with mineral. That gave my well 8 more years of life. My well was in very fine sand, very fine screen, in high mineral water.... It is a crapshoot, can easily eat up the well casing or expose holes in an old one and well is done.
