Subject: Re: Yields

DeKalb, IL
The basic thing is in the way you worded your statement: 'rootworm corn yielded better than the corn with insecticide.' This phrasing suggests that you're indicating that the yield difference was because of the rootworm trait. The others are pointing out that you don't have a side-by-side comparison from which you can draw any conclusion. Yield differences may be due to the hybrid base pedigree, or due to the rootworm trait vs. insecticide or about anything else.

What you can say from these data is that this DEKALB hybrid yielded more than this PIONEER hybrid in this field, this year--but from the limited amount of information included, you really can't go any further than that as to possible reasons WHY the two hybrids yielded differently. Follow these hybrids in reports from yield plots and side-by-sides in your area, and you'll get a better feel for their performance.
