While I do believe that HP is HP, I don't think that all "advertised ratings" are always comparable. Compare, for instance my electric motor and my shop vac. The shop vac is a Craftsman 6.5 HP model. It's a very nice shop vac, but the complete unit is less that half the weight of my baldor 3HP. I truely doubt you could hook the craftsman up to a bin unload and fill a semi.

I was looking at some John Deere Lawn tractor literature a while back. It was rated at '27*HP'. The * had a note saying that the rating was for comparison purposes only. This was their good line, not a big box store machine.

I think that HP ratings have gone the way of fishing stories...
