We don't get heavy wet snow in the fall. Just in the spring. The only problem is if the snow gets too hard for the cows to dig thru. The wind hardens the snow and can get hard as concrete.
I would say there is a lot of swath grazing of barley or oats or millet. And grazing corn is getting more popular up here.
