A few years ago I noticed a neighbor had a lot of double ears and I had none. Thinking I don't know what I'm doing, I fired an email down to the boys at Purdue. They advised you don't want double ears. The second ear can cannibalize the plant, it goes down, then you have no ears. Plant heavier to get away from the double ears. I know with some of the hybrids you get doubles anyway.
