Deep placement is proven to pay. There is plenty of research to back that up.
I realize that Jim and I may have gone around on this point before, but I have a problem with reducing fertilizer rates regardless of placement. Removal is removal and anything less then that is going to erode soil test levels. Nothing you can apply in a given year will fully compensate for loss of good soil test levels. You may get equivilent response on a one-year basis with lower rates due to placement, however in the long run there will be a cost. The other side of this is that you should see a yield response to placing the same amount of fertilizer in a better postion. | |
