West Chazy, New York | Mixing wet and dry material and blowing it into a silo is one of those things that sounds easier than it is. The problem is that you don't have a medium moisture material; you have a mix of too wet and too dry, and it will make slugs that jam your pipe. If you can mix it and let it stand a day or two it will blow much better, but you will also start fermentation while it is standing. Years ago Penn State experimented with ensiling a mixture of ground hay and manure slurry. The professor who did the experiment told how when the pipe jammed, they pulled a garden hose to the top of the silo to help loosen the plug. He described it as "the biggest toilet flush in history". If you try to ensile it, I think the best option will be a horizontal storage. |
