Subject: RE: tile problem for the experts

Beresford, SD
Yep,start over. Our families home quarter was tiled in the 20's by a hand shovel and all the clay tile got full of dirt do to a bad outlet on the neighbors farm.....funny thing is we have owned the farm since 1937 (federal land bank foreclosed) and did not know it was tiled until 10 years ago! I planted rye after corn silage and as the frost went out all these green lines showed up. I found the outlet (drifted shut during the depression) and repaired it. It helped a lot but the farm was still a challenge in a wet year...to say the least! My aunt retiled the entire farm over the last 3 years........WOW I wish my great grandfather would have found all the tile years ago. I had to prove to the NRCS that it had tile and reclassify all the wet spots (PIA) What an awesome piece of land......I had it to beans this year and the whole farm averaged 74.8 BPA. TILE...the best investment on the farm PERIOD!
