You make a good point.

That is why I'm not a trader. I suck at short term.

That is why I don't buy and sell gold. I buy and hold. Because short term, who knows? 

That is why I spread crop sales out over a long time period, sometimes more than a year for each crop. Because short term, I don't know.

Short term I'll be fine. It is the future I'm more concerned about. Not my future (because I've only got 20-25 years left tops), but the ones I care about.

I guess I'm just out of step with the times (not surprising). One of the signs of an empire or economic cycle topping and beginning to decline is the speculative atmosphere. Everything becomes short term focus. Little investment or thought for the long term future.
