I think your best bet would be to use a relay with a latch circuit. Similar to the way a motor starter works.

Because you need to reverse the polarity of the wires going to the motor, I think you will need 2- three pole relays. Use 2 poles to run the motor. On the third pole, run continous 12v on oneside and run the output back to the coil.

Place a momentary toggle switch to send power to the coil to start it. The third pole will close and continue sending power to the coil when the switch is released. Place your limit switch on the ground wire to the coil of the relay, wired normally closed. When the limit switch is tripped, it will disengage that coil.

They do make self latching relays, but they are a little pricey.

It is a little hard to describe this in words, but I could draw it out tomorrow if I need to.

automationdirect has cheap 3 pole motor starters with a 12v coil. They also have a good selection of limit switches with lots of switching options.
