One wire power the other is ground. I think red powered is up, black ground for up. Black powered is down, red ground is down. The switch they sell for this just reverses polarity to change direction of motor rotation, which changes direction of ram travel.
As far as wiring with external limit switches, I haven't got that quite worked out on my head yet.
