The take home is that p and k along with most other metals are in the ash and not lost to burning. Any n credit you might have from the stover is lost. Also the top organic matter is gone. That material is recycled back into the soil. As for cost, some argue you get more benefit from burning than leaving the residue. I prefer slow decomposition myself. | |
