Proper maintenance on, say a 2006 vintage truck , would trump any perceived original build quality.
No after treatment, only egr.
Me personally,
I have a soft spot for the 2006 Freightliner Coronado
I'd have no trouble backing it under a set of trains and holding my head high,while dropping off my Beans and Corn at the local Co-op.
As my Dad says, " if we were all the same, every body would be after my squaw. ..... :) "
What ever you get, get one that you're proud to drive.
Life's too short to do otherwise, as we've seen on here lately.
