Linneus Missouri | The latest import numbers show that imports of beef are up and exports are down. As an example beef imports from Australia are up 200% from last year This is in part due to the stronger dollar.
Dairy exports are slowing and dairy imports are increasing and dairy futures reflect that.
If I had feeder cattle I would want to sell them soon and if I was a feeder I would wait a month and see how this plays out to fill the lot. Once the import beef gets to retailers a 10% to 15% drop in fat cattle prices could happen.
The stronger dollar has a greater impact on all sectors of agriculture than some realize. also, it will take a while for the impact of the change in values to work through the system.
Just my opinion after 45 years of farming. | |
