Subject: feedlot bedding options

West Central Wisconsin
Normally dad used corn stalks as bedding for the cows. Now that we are transitioning the barns to feeder cattle is this still the best option? I had a guy tell me that we should use sawdust because the animals will not eat it and we will be able to completely control the feed intake. We do have plenty of stalks to be made. We don't currently have a bale chopper so we just unroll the bales by hand. Neighbor has used his h & S spreader to spread big square bales. We were thinking of possibly using sawdust during the first couple weeks that the animals come in to force them to eat at the feed bunk and then use corn stalks. What are your opinions?
