My wife and I tip according to service. I've never gave out a tip like that but we have tipped 50% when the service was exceptional, we have also tipped very low when the server goes MIA with few tables to wait on or if you see them farting around on their phones or jaw jacking with co-workers instead of keeping our beverages bottomless.
Could you have been this empathetic? I would hope I could.
