That's pretty much the standard around here also. Most fields are checked by the insurance adjuster to get a grain yield bushel estimate.

If the corn is doing 20 ton/acre as silage they would figure it is 160 bushel/acre corn.

To the OP could you get an estimate on grain yield or have them leave some test strips throughout the field and then base your tons of silage off those strips if a scale is not available to weigh the silage.
