Bloomfield, KY. | I don't doubt the stories of crooked practices that are posted here. Any time there is competition, it brings out the worst in some people.
But, I will defend the registered breeder a little--at least the ones who breed Holsteins. They are the only ones I feel qualified to speak about.
The registered cattle breeders have been the leaders for well over a century in improving the productivity of the Holstein breed. At times they went down the wrong path--too much emphasis on stature, not enough emphasis on strength--but they have given us a much improved cow with better functional type, and much more ability to produce milk.
You may not agree with me about this, but look at the Holstein cow from 100 years ago, and tell me we haven't had incredible progress.
