If starting at the high better hedge them. Also I think calves may be a bit cheaper there than the midwest numbers that get posted here. You may have to buy singles at different weights to get full at BE or better, (you may get laughed at loading 2 head for the day, but if they dont work they dont work) The salebarn time adds up but it can be done. Also I would come up with a plan to get money until you FINISH them.

( full disclosure I have yet to hedge a thing yet in first 14 months at this.... but I was lucky on timing.... I walked into this market unhedged so in theroy I could just carry on with a rolling hedge.... but thinking about buying some puts SOON)

Feeding seems more like a long term thing than a switching crop rotation due to price thing.
