WC MN | Go tell the guy who may have to sell his corn this fall for $2.50 that a 2 billion bushel carryout is a good thing. The market penalizes farmers for growing an abundant crop, if we grow another large crop next year the penalty will be even larger. 2012 had a fairly small carry in and a historic drought, and we still ended up with plenty left over. My point is you are comparing a niche market to a global market. The market will never let us run out of corn unless we have a multiple year global issue. I do not think it is a good thing to run hand to mouth, but the fact of the matter is it doesn't matter what makes sense, it matters what makes cents.
I am not sure what new demand have a large carryout will produce. Ethanol seems close to a ceiling, exports hopefully pick up soon but the $ is rallying, and domestic use is what it is. If there is a home for an additional billion or so bushels of corn I hope we find it.
