S Illinois
So is the belief that we are 10-15 bushels too low on the USDA number? The USDA number already used a very stout ear weight number. The key question is do we have any bigger kernels when compared to 04 or 94. I have no reason to believe that we do. If we only have these style growing years ever ten years, we aren't used to seeing these type of kernels and believe that this years size is unprecedented. Unless something extremely out the ordinary happens, our average ear weight will be no different than was seen in those two years. Also unless those S-IL acres were irrigated ground, I have a hard time believing that you would get 65k kernel per bushel planted at 33k population. At a more typical harvest pop. of 26-29 it is more likely and this exactly how even lower populations can yield 200 +. We really need to know what the harvest populations are on these off the chart kernel weights.
