Subject: Re: 9400 vs 9420 JD Tractor

Ethridge, TN
We have a 9520 and a 9120 with the power shift. Big advantage is learning to use the autoshift capabilities of the tractor, as it is surprising just how more efficient it is when you let it do the shifting, rather than when you think the gears should change. The autoshift is even good to use when moving from to field to field, as when you back out of the throttle it'll down shift, then take you back up to road gear.

We gained alot of other advantages when we moved up, as we traded in an 8960 for the 9520, which had about 1000 hours on it when we got it. Traded an 8650 for the 9120, but bought that one new, as we wanted the pto option on it. So we gained the newer hydraulics along with the creature comforts of the newer style cabs. We have been very happy with the power shifts in both of the tractors, as the 9520 does all the tillage work, and the 9120 is used for planting and the grain cart. We are actually considering trading our other 8960 for a used 9320 that will be coming in to the dealership latter this fall, and it also has a power shift.
