In the John D. Rockefeller biography "Titan", I read that he had the same problem with the rails as the grain producers have today. The rails either wouldn't ship his oil or they were holding him for ransom. He couldn't buy the rails so his solution, as I recall, was to buy the rail car manufacturers. His reasoning was that the locomotives and track were no good without any cars.
I think they reached an agreement. | |
