NNW Nebraska | I keep hearing about how the lack of railroad service is a problem for northern producers.
It isn't just the northern guys affected.
Do people on this site actually believe that it is just a Northern problem?
One of the grain dealers I use that is located in western Nebraska, Normally sends out two unit trains a month. they said in a newsletter, this spring that they had not sent any trains out because be cause of the cost as well as the fact that there was just no cars available. That is just on company, I am sure there are more with similar results.
I heard that cars in central Nebraska were running months behind if even available. Not that much corn grown in western Nebraska, that several unit train loads less per month, not leaving makes a huge difference in our prices. I am sure that lowered the down towards Omaha and further east. So is that just a northern problem? Nebraska is like the center of United States.
My basis at harvest is normally more than dollar under the board, but by late august we can get board price or above. Not this year.
I believe that most of those trains haul to the PNW and the corn is exported. It didn't get there the last several months. That is corn that is still clogging up the system instead of being gone. | |
