Subject: RE: ? on oiling a wooden floor on trailer

Cleveland, MS. Own small farm near Booneville, MS
When Dad built his wooden farrowing house in the late 60s he had me treat all the slatted floor boards with a 50/50 mixture of diesel fuel and wood preservative. It's been too long to remember what the preservative was but it had a strong "turpentine" odor to it. Although it hasn't been used since the late 80s that floor is still solid as can be. During the time it was used we hosed out all the "pig poop" so the wood was water soaked almost every day. None of those boards ever rotted but they did get chewed up by the hooves and sometimes the pigs gnawing on them. Therefore, FWIW, my recommendation is a 50/50 mixture of diesel fuel and some good wood preserver.
